Snoooooow Creative!

So it was a really snowy, cold, icy day (in March!!) with nothing to do and nowhere to go apart from paint!

However, I had a serious case of artist's block!! I felt stuck and uninspired. I needed something to wake me up and get the creative juices flowing!!!

This calls for drastic action! Despite the freezing temperature, I took myself outdoors, into the blustery garden at the back of my house and started to forage for fallen leaves, twigs, holly, branches and berries. It was exhilarating being outside and I felt completely alive and refreshed.

My little outdoor excursion led to so much fun....I photographed my little souvenirs of nature, arranged them to create interesting compositions, sketched them, traced them, made stencils with them and finally, used them as inspiration for my little 20 x 20cm acrylic miniature 'Tiny Tropical'.

Ironic painting tropicals when it is snowing outside but there you go!!!

I even used the twigs and leaves as make-shift stamps...printing, smudging and flicking gorgeous shades of green and pink to create an almost retro design!

This just shows that art can be so much fun! Even though I make art for a living, I never stop enjoying the process, otherwise, what is the point?

Art and other creative pursuits are known to help people engage in the state of 'flow'; where everything melts away, time stops and you are completely absorbed in what you are doing.

This is a wonderful way of looking after you wellbeing, relaxing and engaging in a truly mindful activity.

Why not make it a family event and pop to the local park to select your own pretty leaves and flowers?

Have fun!!!
